DO I HAVE TO BE A BANJO PLAYER TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS TOUR?

Absolutely not! All are welcome - spouses, partners, friends, travel enthusiasts etc! This is an enjoyable tour of Ireland, visiting many historical sites. The tour will encompass sightseeing, shopping, attending bluegrass and Irish music events and many other activities!

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR PETE'S BLUEGRASS JAMS?

As with Wernick Method classes, only 4 chord requirements:  G,C,D and A.

Experienced jammers will be given extra challenges!

WILL THERE BE IRISH MUSIC JAMS/JESSIONS?

Yes!

Although Pete's classes and jams will be all-bluegrass, you'll also have opportunities to attend (and participate if you wish) in Irish music sessions along the way. 

ARE FLIGHTS INCLUDED?

Since many people these days prefer to select their chosen airline / flight routing, and also choose to add extra days in Ireland before or after the tour, this is a land-only package.  We're happy to refer you to an American based agency who can assist you with the flights if you require.

TENTATIVE ITINERARY

(subject to change)

 

DAY1 (Sat 7Jun)-depart from your chosen location (if coming from North America or Australia/Asia)!

 

DAY2 (Sun 8Jun)-arrive in Ireland

  • Meet + greet bus + tour guide at Dublin airport.

  • We will head a short distance up the road to County Meath, where we will explore the Boyne Valley Region.

  • We’ll visit Trim Castle - the largest and best preserved, Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland. Few places in Ireland contain more medieval buildings than this heritage town. Trim gets its name from the Irish, ‘Baile Atha Troim’, which means ‘Town of the Ford of the Elder Trees’, indicating that this was an important fording point on the River Boyne.

  • Before re-boarding the bus, there’s time to shop at Trim’s local craft shop!

  • A short drive to nearby Navan, and check into hotel, where we relax and refresh.

  • Overnight at the beautiful Bellinteer House. On the banks of the River Boyne, this upscale hotel occupies a splendid Georgian mansion, built about 1750. The Palladium-style house was designed by Richard Castle for John Preston, grandfather of the first Lord Tara.

 

DAY3 (Mon 9Jun)

  • After a sumptuous Irish breakfast, we visit Newgrange - a prehistoric monument located on a rise overlooking the River Boyne, It is an exceptionally grand passage tomb built during the Neolithic Period, around 3200 BC, making it older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids!!

  • Accommodation: Bellinteer House

  • Late afternoon mentoring session with Pete

  • Dinner in Bellinteer's luxurious restaurant.

  • Evening jamming after dinner 

 

DAY4 (Tue 10Jun)

  • After breakfast, we check out of Bellinteer House and head west to County Mayo, arriving in the town of Westport. 

  • Tonight we will stay in the centre of this picturesque town,  set between Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay’s islands to the west and the Nephin Mountains to the north. 

  • Check into hotel and relax before dinner. 

  • After dinner, we go to the famous Matt Molloy’s (of the Chieftains) pub for a traditional Irish session. One never knows who will turn up. Matt Molloy himself is often on site and joins in the nightly session!

  • Accommodation: Knockranny House Hotel + Spa

DAY5 (Wed 11Jun)

  • Tonight’s overnight accommodation will be in the luxurious Markree Castle - an authentic Irish castle located in the beautiful county of Sligo on the route of the world-famous Wild Atlantic Way. 

  • We will have a sumptuous meal in the Castle’s restaurant.

  • After we enjoy a beautifully prepared breakfast, you’ll have time to explore the beautifully secluded 500-acre castle grounds

DAY6 (Thur 12Jun)

  • After breakfast, we'll head back to our final stop, in the beatufiful seaside village of Malahide, in County Dublin. Here we will stay for the final two nights in the Grand Hotel (overlooking Dublin Bay)

  • After checking into our hotel, you'll have the option of exploring the village of Malahide, full of cafes and small shops.

  • For those who are interested, we'll swing over to Malahide Castle for an afternoon tour of the historic building and grounds. 

  • Tonight we'll dine in the hotel's popular restaurant.

DAY7 (Fri 13Jun)

  • After breakfast, the coach will transport you into the City Centre.Free full day in Dublin for shopping and sightseeing (Joe, our tour guide will happily advise and facilitate whatever specific spots you may want to visit.

  • During the afternoon, you can attend one of the Irish traditional sessions in the City Centre. 

  • Meals today + this evening on your own.

  • Coach will transport you back to hotel at a designated time this evening to pack and prepare for tomorrow's departure.

DAY8 (Sat 14Jun)

  • Final morning to start the day with a full Irish breakfast , then check out of the hotel and we say goodbye until next time….!
